The lord of scraps of paper of wax, vapor and dust of breaths not taken look at the dirt that packs the floor look at the sun, angling through the window high on the wall look at what surrounds you and count count to ground yourself to grind yourself the bitter decades living the bitter mornings waking with what you’ve done the plow bites the earth the yoke bites the shoulder of the one wearing it does it pass father to son does it recede mitochondrial look at the tiles lining the walls look at the cracks look at the age spots on your hands knuckles knobbed and swollen plastic wrap skin folding in and stuck they’re locked in here with you worse, you’re locked in here with you wearing grooves into the floor look at the leaves cut through with power lines look through your blurring lens you’re here alone your conscience dissolving look at the dirt that packs the floor

In November 2019, Snake Union had a residency at EMS (Elektronmusikstudion) in Stockholm, Sweden. We spent a full week in this beautiful studio around-the-clock, sometimes only seeing the Scandinavian fall sun for a few minutes during lunch break. We were almost never more than 6 feet apart the entire time, working side by side on the legendary Buchla 200 & Serge Modular systems, and then staying in bunk beds on a boat hotel directly across the street.

We returned to the recordings in 2020, working on editing and mixing the trove of material we generated in our busy week. Certain tracks called out for overdubs and collaboration: we were pleased when Rachelle Rahmé and Jessica Pavone agreed to add their poetry and viola, respectively. Snake Union also reached back into our shared past as vocalists, both of us taking on voice duties in select songs.

To Whom I’ve Never Met and Only Imagined takes its title from a line in Rachelle’s poem. To us the words spoke of the isolation of quarantine, and the desire for escape or comfort; the imagining of another being. We are very excited for everyone to hear this sonic sci-fi world we have made. We recommend playing it loud in a dark room, or zoning out with headphones through a long night…much like it was created.

SNAKE UNION is Chuck Bettis (Meta-matics,Mossenek) & David Grant (Action Patrol, On A Clear Day). A duo that works in improvisational rhythmic explorations that match analog synths and digital sound processing, modular wires and max patches. By turns psychedelic, delicate, and fuzzed out, the sequenced collides with the freeform as these two soundmakers push into new realms. goo.gl/eC0dlZ ... more
